Before and After School Programs
Mary Munford offers a variety of enrichment opportunities outside of regular school hours. These programs give students the chance to explore new interests, build skills, and connect with classmates in fun and engaging ways.

🌟 After School Enrichment (Fall & Spring)
The ASE program provides children with hands‑on experiences in science, art, athletics, cooking, and more. Each session offers a mix of activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity.

🤖 Lego Robotics (Fall, Expo in Spring)
Open to 1st–5th graders, this program introduces students to the Lego Spike Robotics Kit and the annual Lego Challenge. Teams work together to design, build, and showcase their creations at the spring Lego Expo.

🧩 Mind Games (Grades 2–5)
For students who love puzzles and problem‑solving, the Mind Games team offers challenges like logic puzzles, hink pinks, sequences, and construction projects. Information sheets and pretests are distributed in late January for interested students.

🎭 Arts for All – After School Play (Grades 3–5)
In partnership with arts to ALL, the PTA hosts an annual after‑school play where students sing, dance, and act under professional direction.
- 2025 Production: Alice in Wonderland
- 2026 Production: 101 Dalmatians
Sign‑ups open each November and fill very quickly — this program is extremely popular!

⚽ Soccer (Fall & Spring)
The PTA partners with the Richmond City Department of Parks and Recreation to run seasonal soccer programs, giving students the chance to learn skills, play games, and enjoy team sports.

🏃 Monarchs Run Club (Fall & Spring)
- Fall: Open to 3rd–5th graders
- Spring: Open to all grades
Students train together to prepare for a local race each session, building endurance, teamwork, and school spirit.

Author Visits
The PTA hosts Author Visits at Munford and also supports visits at other RPS Elementary Schools that may not have the ability to bring in an Author independently. Students are able to order the book in advance, often with a personsonalized message from the Author, through local bookstore bbgb.

Donate to the Munford Library
You can also support our Mary Munford Library by donating new or gently used items. These donations help restock the Book Vending Machine, refresh the library’s collection, and fuel creative student activities. Simply drop off contributions in the office and check the full list of accepted items here
The Book Vending Machine is used as a reward and encouragement system in the school!

Reading Night - You and your student(s) enjoy an evening with book creation on Storybird, poetry slam, book exchanges and fireside storytime.

Reading Night @ Flying Squirrels (May) - Each student receives a bookmark that has eight (8) baseballs on the front. (These come home with your child.)
Students color in a baseball for every book they read.
Once the student colors in all eight (8) baseballs, a parent or guardian should sign the bookmark and send it back to school with your student.
Completed bookmarks must be returned to classroom teachers by a certain date!
Each student who complete their bookmark gets a free or discounted ticket to a game in May, but you can purchase extra tickets here. Proceeds from these sales go back to Munford!

The Scholastic Book Fair is held during the spring, usually in May. Hosted by our PTA, this event is an opportunity for students to further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school. Last year we sold more than 1000 books and raised over $14,000 to purchase books for our library and classrooms.

Book Fair Week (typical schedule)
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: Each class will visit the Book Fair (hosted on the stage of the auditorium) during school hours on these days.
Note: check with your teacher or room parent on if the teacher can accommodate parents and which day your student’s class is visiting.

Wednesday (after school): We will have additional after-school shopping hours for parents and kids from 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm on the stage of the auditorium.

Friday (Generations Day): The last day of the Book Fair typically coincides with the Generations Day lunch visit. Caregivers can head up to the book fair before or after lunch. Generations Day shopping hours are 11:00 am – 2:00 pm in the auditorium.

We limit the number of people on the stage so it’s not overly crowded at any one time.

Important Things to Know:
📋 Flyers will come home in backpacks with Book Fair selections and options a week or so in advance.
Pro Tip:  If you want to ensure your kid doesn’t get books they already own or has some direction when it’s Fair time, fill out the wish list in the flyer or make your own.

🤑 Create an eWallet* on Scholastic as an alternative to cash. You can set this up now and print out to send in with your child for their class visit day. Link to set up a Scholastic Book Fair eWallet
Note: Scholastic’s eWallet for the Book Fair is separate from the Scholastic personal account eWallets. This is only relevant if you have an outstanding balance and were hoping to apply unused funds from a personal account.

🙋Volunteering: If you want to get involved with the fair, please sign up for a volunteer shift- if you are especially bookish, you can sign up for more than one time slot!

😠 We do run out of popular books and items. If this happens, online shopping is available on the Scholastic website.

We’re excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair. Thank you!
