Mary Munford Soccer Program

The Mary Munford PTA runs a soccer program in the Fall and Spring seasons through the Richmond City Department of Parks and Recreation.  Many volunteers are needed to act as coaches, assistant coaches, and team parents!  Please look at the information below for more specific information on volunteering.  If you have additional questions after reviewing the information below, please visit the 2025 MMES Registration site or email marymunfordsoccer@gmail.com.

The Fall 2025 season runs from 9/2 (first game 9/6) through 10/25 for U6 and U8. The U10/12 season begins 9/2 with the first game on 9/13. The season ends 11/8.

General Information
The Basics:
The Mary Munford Soccer Program is part of the City of Richmond Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities Soccer Program and follows this program’s policies and guidelines. Our soccer program serves children, ages 5 to 12 (elementary school aged), from Mary Munford and other area schools. There are two soccer seasons – fall and spring.

Volunteer coaches: 
We are always looking for volunteer coaches. If you coach, one registration fee per team you coach is waived. Please consider helping out the program by volunteering to coach.  If you’re interested in coaching, fill out the volunteer coach registration online when you register your child. IF WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH COACHES, WE WILL HAVE TO TURN AWAY PLAYERS.

Team Parents: 
Each team should have a team parent that helps to schedule snacks and/or end of the season celebrations. If you would like to be a team parent, please register online when you register your child.

Age Groups for the Spring 2022 Season

Our soccer program serves children born on or before September 30, 2020 from Mary Munford and other area schools.  PLAYERS MUST TURN 5 BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER TO QUALIFY.

Please try to place your child with their age group.  The players usually enjoy the season when playing with classmates.  

Age Classifications 2025 Fall season: (Age cut-off is September 30th, 2020, i.e. the player must be 5 years old on or before September 30th, 2025)

  • 6U: Can’t turn 7 on or before October 31st, 2025 
  • 8U: Can’t turn 9 on or before October 31st, 2025
  • 10U: Can’t turn 11 on or before October 31st, 2025
  • 12U: Can’t turn 13 on or before October 31st, 2025​
Please note the following policies:
 
  • Registration is first-come, first-served and each registration is date and time stamped by the online registration system. We create and fill teams based on volunteer coach availability and field space availability.  We also attempt to create balanced teams with regards to gender and age.
  • Once each division’s limit for players is met, a wait list will start for that division. If we are able to admit anyone from the wait list, it will also be done on a first-come, first-served basis. A player will not be charged any fees until he/she is admitted.  If a space becomes available on a division’s wait list, the player will be admitted to the program and an email will be sent to the email address in the online system. The registration will not be complete however until you log back in and authorize payment.
  • Players may indicate a practice day preference OR a coach preference. Some helpful tips: In arranging carpools, please coordinate with others by selecting the same practice day. If you prefer a particular coach, check with him to see if he’s coaching this season and on what day.
  • We cannot guarantee a player a specific coach or practice day but will do our very best to be accommodating.  Should a player’s team placement be unsatisfactory, we’ll refund all fees minus a $5 processing fee.
  • Due to the complexity of building a large number of teams involving several hundred players, we will not make changes to teams.
  • We encourage coaches, parents, and players to embody and promote the spirit of our recreational soccer program: learn new skills, have fun, and make new friends.

​​Inclement Weather, Field Closings, and Game Cancellations

 

  • Your coach is responsible for reaching out regarding field closings and practice cancellations. Please touch base with your coach regarding their preferred communication method. The Munford league utilizes SportsEngine. Make sure you activate your SportsEngine messaging to get the most up to date information.

 

Practices and Games

  • 6U

    • Once per week at 5pm; 30 min practice, 30 min game

    • Munford fields A-C around tennis and basketball court

  • 8U

    • Practice 1x/week at 5pm; Games Saturdays at 9:30

    • Munford fields 1-4 on the Cary St side
       

  • 10U

    • Practice 2x/week at 5pm; Games Saturdays, time TBD

    • Practice at Munford fields 1-4; Games at various locations throughout city

  • 12U

    • Practice 2x/week at 5pm; Games Saturdays, time TBD

    • Practice at Munford fields 1-4; Games at various locations throughout city

Equipment

  • To play for a Munford team, a player will need a red Munford jersey, red socks, black shorts, shin guards, and cleats.
  • If your child needs a uniform, you may order one when you register your child. This will include a red Munford jersey and a pair of red socks. We do not provide the shorts, shin guards or cleats.
