🤖 Lego Robotics at Mary Munford
The Lego Robotics program is offered only in the fall and gives students the chance to explore engineering, coding, and teamwork through hands‑on challenges.
Program Highlights

  • Competition: 4th and 5th graders compete in a local robotics competition, typically held at Maggie Walker in November.
  • Schedule:
    • 4th & 5th graders: Meet once a week for a 2‑hour session after school.
    • 1st–3rd graders: Meet once a week for a 1‑hour session after school.
  • Dates: early September for an 8-week program.

FIRST® LEGO® League introduces science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to children through fun, exciting, hands-on learning. FIRST LEGO League participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together.Teams use the Lego Education Spike Sets to build the robotic components of the Lego kits.

Volunteer Driven
This program relies on parent and community volunteers.

  • Coaches Needed: Each team requires two coaches — a total of 20 coaches are needed.
  • Without volunteers, teams cannot be formed, so parent participation is essential to keep the program running!

Each Spring, the Lego Robotics teams host an Expo at the Munford Pavilion. At the Expo, you can experience the LEGO kits for both junior and senior teams, try out pre-built robots on an official competition table, and learn more about the programming languages. We will also have a LEGO free build area! Check Peek at Next Week for details in the spring.
